Shielding - How and Why

The government, NHS and Public Health England have published guidance on enhanced self-protection measures for patients with current illnesses that might put them at great risk if they catch COVID-19. The link below explains the rationale behind the guidance and which patients should take special action. The advice is in reality and enhanced version of self-isolation for people who will already know that they are vulnerable but it spells out the importance of taking precautions. It also gives guidance to family , friends and carers .

COVID Symptom Tracker

Kings College London have launched a new app https://covid.joinzoe.com/ which aims to track the geographical distribution of potential COVID-19 cases throughout the country on a daily basis.

I have signed up because I think this simple device will provide early warning of hotspots and potentially allow planners to deploy services to areas of greatest need. It will also tell us how many people are becoming symptomatic and eventually it will tell us how many people are recovering without needing diagnostic tests or hospital treatment. In situations such as we find ourselves right know data and knowledge are vital if we want to take the guesswork out of dealing with the pandemic.

It only takes a few minutes and provides valuable data with which to help our understanding of this virus.
